The first day of the RORC Vice Admiral’s Cup was a challenge for nine FAST40+ teams racing and the race committee. Just one race was held light airs with Niklas Zennstrom’s Swedish Carkeek 42 Rán taking Line Honours and the win after IRC time correction. Ed Fishwick’s British Farr 42 Redshift, taking part in their first inshore race, was second. Steve Cowie’s Scottish team racing Zephyr made the race podium, about a minute ahead of Filip Engelbert’s Swedish Ker40+ Elvis, and Mike Bartholomew’s South African Carkeek 42 Tokoloshe II.
The leader at the first top mark was Tony Dickin’s British Carkeek Mk3 Jubilee, 20 seconds ahead of Elvis. Zephyr was in third just ahead of Rán. On the final run, Peter Morton’s CF40+ Girl on Film took up a northerly position which initially seemed to pay off but the south-easterly breeze re-established itself. With the new wind subsequently stalling, racing was abandoned for the day at 16:20.
Racing at the RORC Vice Admiral’s Cup for the FAST40+ Class will continue tomorrow, Saturday 11 May.
